During the War, many soldiers preferred this style of garrison cap- it is more rectangular and "sharper" in appearance than the issue cap. These were purchased from tailors, clothing stores and Post Exchanges (PX's). Many enthusiasts have mistakenly christened these "paratrooper" models which is erroneous- any soldier or airman could (and often did) purchase these. They are made from the same type of wool serge as the Service Coat and Wool Trousers.Branch of Service Piping: Once a soldier was assigned to a unit, colored trim was usually sewn around the lip of the cap fold. (A few soldier's did not get this done for one reason or another, especially in the middle of the War.) These are stocked with blue (infantry) piping or no piping at all.
